On January 18th at 7:00pm at Mimi’s Cafe in Thousand Oaks, the LPVC will hold it’s annual officer elections as part of the monthly meeting. Come out and vote for new officers of the Libertarian Party Ventura County. Come and run for a position as well! We need volunteers of every kind to continue this work and to spread the ideas of freedom and liberty in Ventura County.

Supervisor Peter Foy of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors will be the guest speaker at the meeting of the LPVC on  Wednesday, December 21st 7:00pm at the Aloha Steakhouse in Camarillo. Peter Foy, who represents the 4th district which includes Simi Valley and Moorpark, has proven to be a friend of liberty and is frequently the only voice of reason at meetings of the County Supervisors. Come hear and meet Peter and join us for our annual holiday party. Last year we had a full house so be sure to RSVP EARLY this year as seating will be LIMITED!

The Libertarian Party of Ventura County will be upgrading its website during the period of June 1st through June 17th. Any changes such as posts, comments, profile changes, document uploads, etc. that are made during this period will not be moved to the new site by the system administrators. Please be aware of this and make arrangements to manually move any content you may have added during this period of time.

A special thanks to our many volunteers and donors who made this possible!

Who will be affected?
All website users who have their own profile on the state’s social network, the state website itself, and all counties/cities using the network

Why is this transition period occurring?

We’re moving to Freebook 2.0 and will need a period of time to debug the system after we have moved all of the network’s data over from Freebook 1.0

What improvements are being made?

The list is long but let’s start with a few:

1) Each city will now have its own domain name instead of a path under the county’s domain. (eg. http://ca.lp.org/yoursite/ will now be http://www.yoursite.org).

2) Next, each user will now have the option to have a full social network on their site, not just a blog with a widget on the side that shows the state’s social network. Cool, eh?

3) Any city group or user that creates a site on the network now has access to very simple to use contact forms that will integrate directly with your Facebook and MailChimp accounts. Get the word out for liberty more easily!

4) Each user can now designate who will receive email inquires that come from their website via a dynamic forms with conditional logic.

5) Maintenance of the network has now become much easier and this will allow us to continue development and adding more features so that you can leverage the power of the internet to spread the Libertarian message.

6) The site is now much more stable and you will find many of the bugs that currently exist to be corrected.

George Miller - Ventura County TEA Party

George Miller of Ventura County TEA Party speaks to the Ventura County Libertarians March 16th, 2011

Libertarians in the Oxnard area came to hear George Miller of the Ventura County TEA Party speak to them at Yolanda’s Restaurant located in the newest section of the Channel Islands Harbor last night. George’s speech was an honest assessment of the common areas where Libertarians and TEA Partiers can work together, but he also shared distinct differences that sets Libertarians apart from the TEA Party. According to George:

Libertarians and TEA Parties agree that:

  • Governments should be fiscally conservative
  • Individuals have personal liberty and freedom
  • The Constitution is important and most in government are ignoring it

Libertarian Party differs from TEA Parties because:

  • The Libertarian Party is an actual political party, the Tea Parties are not
  • The Tea Parties are, in fact, separate grassroots organizations, not an organized movement
  • Libertarians believe that government should stay out of moral and social issues altogether, while many Tea Party activists tend to believe that the government should do at least something to protect innocent people from immoral behavior

Both groups can work together by:

  • Educate the public and each other on important political issues
  • Pursue political action on common causes (current ISAG issue, for example)
  • Cross-endorse and support candidates

Both TEA Partiers and Libertarians alike were excited at working together on common issues such as stopping the Ventura County land grab. We look forward to forging alliances with more groups as we build coalitions that enable us to influence public policy.

Laura Boatright from  American Majority put on an excellent training session January 29th, 2011 in Camarillo. Liberty minded activists from all over Ventura County attended the meeting, including George Miller of the Ventura County Tea Party, Susan Savas-Kline of the Thousand Oaks Tea Party, and almost the entire Libertarian Central Committee of Ventura County.  Topics began with a history lesson in American Government followed by local canvassing techniques for neighborhood level get out the vote efforts (GOTV) and ended with a foray into online avenues for spreading the word.

Liberty minded individuals are encouraged to attend future events where the nuts and bolts of political activism are taught since this is one of the best methods for making a difference.

Special thanks to Laura Boatright for her candid speaking style and willingness to expose not only Progressive (henceforth: “Regressive”) tyranny, but also that of the Republican Party type, as well. The more voters understand that our freedoms are being eroded by those in power, irrespective of their party affiliation, the sooner we will reclaim our freedom.
